The Owls jumped out to an early double-digit lead, but the Mariners fought back to close it to 20-18 with 12:06 to go in the first half. UMPI went on a 7-1 run in the final minutes of the first half, but a three-point jumper from Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) closed the Owls' lead to 49-38 entering halftime.
The Owls scored 12-unanswered points early in the second half to lead 63-40 at 16:05, and led by 25 with 14:02 remaining but the Mariners continued to fight and outscored the Owls 13-2 late in the half to close the gap to 78-71.
The Mariners cut the deficit to six points with under a minute to go, but the Owls were went 4-of-4 from the line in their last two possessions to close out the win.
Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine) led the Mariners with 21 points, including going a perfect 9-for-9 from the line, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Kimani Anderson (Houston, Texas) tallied 16 points, four rebounds and a steal and Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Va.) added 14 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Griffin Guerrette led UMPI with a game-high 31 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal, Shyquinn Dix recorded 18 points, nine rebounds, five steals, four assists and a block, while TeVon Hines added 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. DeAndre Duncombe tallied 11 points, three rebounds and an assist and Will Griffin rounded out the players in double-figured with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.
The Mariners shot 45.5 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from behind the arc, while the Owls shot 52.5 percent overall and 32.0 percent from three-point land. UMPI held a 35-26 advantage in rebounds.
Maine Maritime Academy's Last Game: Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball fell to UMaine-Farmington 87-70 last Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Mariners led 10-3 early in the first half, but the Beavers fought back and carried a 46-43 lead into halftime following a closely contested 20 minutes.
The Beavers used an eight-point run to open up the second half on their way to the 87-70 victory.
Andrew Liebert (Plano, Texas) led the Mariners with 19 points, a rebound and a steal, while Nicholas DePatsy and Malachi Reincke tallied 12 points each. DePatsy chipped in with three rebounds, two assists and a steal and Reincke contributed a rebound, an assist and a block while Kimani Anderson recorded 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Terion Moss led the Beavers with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists, Issac Witham added 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal and Amir Moss contributed 12 points and a steal. Riley Robinson, Jack Kane and Anthony Owens each added 10 points, while Bill Ruby led the Beavers with 10 rebounds.
The Mariners shot 54.9 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from three, while the Beavers shot 53.1 percent overall and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Beavers held a 38-19 advantage in rebounds.
University of Maine at Presque Isle's Last Game: UMaine-Presque Isle men's basketball defeated NVU-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon in NAC action inside of Wieden Hall.
TeVon Hines led the Owls with game-high 24 points off 10-of-16 shooting from the field, including going 4-of-6 from three, seven rebounds and six assists. Shyquinn Dix finished with 19 points off 50 percent shooting, to go along with his seven rebounds and five assists. Griffin Guerrette finished with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while DeAndrew Duncombe finished with 14 points. Chris Brown came off the bench with 17 points off 7-of-13 shooting.
