SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy's Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) has been selected as a participant for the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic.
Ogden, the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year and First Team All-NAC selection, helped lead the Mariners to one of their most successful regular seasons in program history. The Mariners amassed a 20-6 overall record and advanced to the NAC Tournament for the 23rd-consecutive season.
Ogden led the Mariners with 14.3 points per game during the regular season and averaged 14.4 points per game against conference opponents. Ogden led the NAC in three-pointers made (77) and three-pointers per game (3.08). During the regular season Ogden became just the ninth player in program to surpass 1,000 career points, set a new single-game record for three-pointers in a game (9) and broke the career record for three-pointers made (246). Ogden averaged 41.6 percent from the floor, 38.1 percent from three-point land, and 75 percent from the line in all 25 games, while shooting 41.8 percent overall, 37.6 percent from three and 82.6 percent from the line in the Mariners' 14 conference games. Ogden scored in double-figures in 20 of the team's 25 games, including 10 of the team's 14 conference contests. On February 9, Ogden tied the Maine Maritime single-game record with a career-high 33 points against NVU-Johnson. Against conference opponents, Ogden averaged 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.1 assists per game.
The NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic will be played on March 28 at Western New England.
