JOHNSON, Vt. – Senior Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) scored a career-high 33 points, tying the Maine Maritime women's basketball single-game record, to surpass 1,000 career points and lead the Mariners to a 69-38 victory over Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Carter Gymnasium.
Ogden becomes just the ninth player in Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball history to reach the milestone.
How it Happened: The Mariners took a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Badgers 21-8 in the second, to take a commanding 36-18 lead into halftime and never looked back.
Inside the Numbers: Ogden led the Mariners with 33 points and three rebounds, while Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) added a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.
Ellery Kiefer led the Badgers with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
The Mariners shot 40.0 percent overall and 36.8 percent from three-point land, while the Badgers shot 26.8 percent from the floor and 15.0 percent from beyond the arc. Maine Maritime held a 46-29 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 18-4 on the season and 10-1 in the NAC, while the Badgers drop to 2-19 overall and 2-9 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, February 14 when they head to Thomas College for a 5:30 pm matchup.
