LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball defeated Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 62-51 on Saturday evening in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Stannard Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The two teams exchanged the lead back and forth early in the first quarter, before the Mariners went on a six-point run to take a 16-10 lead into the second.
The two teams battled closely in the second quarter, but the Mariners carried their six-point edge (32-26) into halftime.
Maine Maritime built a double-digit lead in the third quarter and maintained that advantage on their way to the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) tallied a game-high 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead Maine Maritime.
Alissa Mitchell tallied 12 points, six assist, three rebounds, two steals and a block to lead Lyndon, while Lea Crompton chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, four steals an assist.
Maine Maritime shot 46.0 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from three-point land, while the Hornets shot 37.7 percent overall and 14.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Mariners held a 39-24 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: With the win, the Mariners improve to 17-4 overall and 9-1 in the NAC, while the Hornets drop to 7-13 on the season and 3-7 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, at NVU-Johnson at noon.
