CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 73-47 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle on Wednesday evening in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners came out strong in the first quarter, jumping out to a double-figure lead and held the Owls to single-digits in both of the first two quarters to take a 38-14 advantage into halftime.
The Mariners never looked back in the second half on their way to the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) tallied a game-high 18 points to go along with two rebounds, an assist and a steal, while both Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) and Morgan Boudreau (Benton, Maine) chipped in with 10 points. Plissey contributed six rebounds, three blocks and a steal, while Boudreau added four rebounds, an assist and a steal, while Maureen Stanton (Abington, Mass.) led the Mariners with four assists, and also contributed nine points, and three rebounds and Sydney Underhill-Tilton (Richmond, Maine) pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while also adding six points, three assists and three steals.
Mariah Dunbar led the Owls with 15 points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist.
The Mariners shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc, while the Owls shot 29.1 percent overall and 15.4 percent from three-point land. Maine Maritime held a 46-35 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 16-4 overall and 8-1 in the NAC, while the Owls dip to 3-18 on the season and 1-10 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to take on NVU-Lyndon for a 1:00 pm NAC matchup.
