CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 79-36 victory over SUNY Delhi on Tuesday evening in non-conference action inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and carried a 23-6 advantage into the second. The teams battled closely in the second quarter, both scoring 14 points, but the Mariners took a 37-20 lead into halftime.
Maine Maritime scored 11-unanswered points to open up the third quarter to take a 48-20 lead and never looked back on their way to the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with 20 points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist, while Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) added 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals and Claire Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with nine points, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Maureen Stanton (Abington, Mass.) chipped in with a game-high six assists and added two points, two rebounds and two steals.
Samiaya Salley led the Broncos with 13 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds, while Diana Echols contributed a game-high 10 rebounds to go with four points, two blocks and an assist.
The Mariners shot 45.8 percent from the floor and 31.8 percent from three-point land, while the Broncos shot 23.1 percent from the floor and 12.0 percent from behind the arc. The Mariners held a 43-36 advantage in rebounds, while holding their opponents to 38 points or less in their sixth-consecutive game.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 12-3 overall with their 12th-straight win, while the Broncos drop to 3-13 overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday night when they host Husson University at 5:30 pm for a rematch of last year's North Atlantic Conference Championship game.
