CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball picked up a commanding 64-33 victory over SUNY Canton in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon inside of Smith Gymnasium, in the Second Annual Jimmy Card Celebration of Life Game.
How it Happened: The Mariners took an 11-6 lead into the second quarter and carried a 25-17 lead into halftime.
Maine Maritime came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Roos 39-16 in the final two quarters to pick up the win.
Inside the Numbers: Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with a career-high 15 rebounds and 10 points for the double-double, to go along with two assists, a steal and a block, while Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) tallied a game-high 16 points, three assists, two rebounds, two steals, and a block.
Autumn Watkins led the Roos with 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
The Mariners shot 36.2 percent from the floor, and 23.1 percent from behind the arc, while the Roos shot 27.9 percent overall and 30.0 percent from three-point land. Maine Maritime dominated the boards, outrebounding the Roos 49-23.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the NAC, while the Roos drop to 0-15 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday night when they host SUNY Delhi for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm.
