CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball resumed North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a decisive 65-22 victory over SUNY Canton on Friday night inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners held a 14-9 advantage after the first quarter, took a 34-14 lead into halftime and never looked back on their way to the 65-22 conference victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with a game-high 14 points, including four three-pointers to surpass Michelle Gott-Miles as the program's all-time leader in career three-pointers with 206. Ogden also contributed three assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) added eight points, a career-high seven blocks, six rebounds, four steals and an assist, while Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) recorded a team-high five assists and chipped in with three rebounds and two blocks, and Claire Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) chipped in with a team-leading eight rebounds to go with two assists and a point.
Joie Culkin led the Roos with 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.
The Mariners shot 39.7 percent from the floor and 26.1 percent from three-point land, while the Roos shot 15.7 percent overall and 4.8 from behind the arc. Maine Maritime held a 54-36 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the NAC, while the Roos drop to 0-14 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. The two teams will square off again tomorrow, Saturday, January 11 inside of Smith Gymnasium at 1:00 pm for the Second Annual Jimmy Card Celebration of Life Game.
