MACHIAS, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 78-38 victory over UMaine-Machias on Tuesday night in non-conference action inside of Reynolds Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to the 40-point victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with 17 points, including five three-pointers, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine) and Claire Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) recorded 12 points each. Charters contributed two rebounds and a steal, while Felix added six rebounds and three steals, Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) pulled down a team-best nine rebounds to go along with eight points, three assists and a block and Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) led the Mariners with six assists, and chipped in with six points, and three steals.
Caitlyn Lyons led the Clippers with 15 points, two rebounds, and two assists and Tate Dolley pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds and added 11 points for the double-double, while also tallying two blocks.
The Mariners shot 36.8 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from behind the arc, while the Clippers shot 24.1 percent overall and 18.2 percent from three-point land. Maine Maritime held a dominating 56-30 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 9-3 overall, while the Clippers drop to 8-4 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, January 10 when they host SUNY Canton at 5:30 pm for a North Atlantic Conference matchup.
