CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 66-42 victory over Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday evening in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams inside of Smith Gymnasium.
How it Happened: The Mariners held the Badgers to just six points in the first quarter and took a commanding 39-16 lead into halftime on their way to the 66-42 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal, Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine) added 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist and Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) contributed a game-high nine rebounds to go with five points, two blocks, an assist and a steal. Maureen Stanton (Abington, Mass.) tallied a game-high five assists, to go with three points and Sydney Underhill-Tilton (Richmond, Maine) added eight rebounds, three assists, two points and a steal.
Lindsey LaPerle led the Badgers with 10 points and five rebounds while Kiana Johnson added nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Mariners shot 29.7 percent from the floor while the Badgers shot 33.3 percent from the floor. Maine Maritime held a 45-40 advantage in rebounds.
Up Next: With the win the Mariners improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while the Badgers drop to 0-7 on the season and 0-1 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, December 8 when they host NVU-Lyndon at 12:00 pm.
