Mariners Fall to Eagles

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's soccer falls to Husson University on senior day in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened: The Eagles scored quickly with a goal by Arni Hreidarsson assisted by Pedro Molina Scanchez in the ninth minute to give Husson a 1-0 led. Husson University added two more goals in the first half to extend the Eagles' led to 3-0 going into halftime.

Husson University scored two more goals in the second half to claim a 5-0 victory over the Mariners.

Inside the Numbers: The Eagles held a 22-6 advantage in shots and a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Mariners. Matthew Castella (San Antonio, Texas) and Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) spilt time in net for the Mariners, recording two and six saves respectively. Alex Rechsteiner and Benjamin Powell were in net for the Eagles, with Rechsteiner making two saves and Powell going untested.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 6-8-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference, while Husson University improves to 11-4-2 overall and 9-1 in conference. The Mariners return to action next weekend when they travel to Bangor, Maine for the NAC Men's Soccer Championship tournament. The Mariners go into the tournament as the fourth seed and will face Husson University in their game. Quarterfinal games will be held on Saturday, October 30 and Semifinal games will be held on Sunday, October 31.
