Lyndonville, VT. – Maine Maritime men's soccer picked up a 4-1 win over UNV-Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Mariners took a quick 1-0 lead in the first half when Branden Pasternak (Orlando, Fla.) beat Brett Roy off an assist by Xander Fortuna-Ramos (West Covina, Calif.) in the third minute. The Hornets answered with a goal by Joseph Patrick Osborn in the 11th minute, to make the score 1-1. Pasternak added another goal in the 12th minute off an assist from JD Vandemergel (Brighton, Mich.) to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. Reuben Harrison (Heidelberg, Germany) and Brad McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) rounded out the scoring for the Mariners, both assisted by Pasternak, to make the final score 4-1.
Inside the Numbers: The Mariners held a 20-5 advantage in shots and a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks over the Hornets. Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) made one save in the win for the Mariners and Brett Roy made six saves in the loss for the Hornets.
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 2-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference, while the Hornets fall to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference. The Mariners return to action on Monday, September 20 at 8pm when they host Bowdoin College in a non-conference matchup.
