LEWISTON, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Bates College, 9-0 on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Russell Street Field.
How it Happened: The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Owen Keleher beat Maine Maritime's Matthew Castella (San Antonio, Texas) on pass from Gerard Costa Farre. Costa Farre scored a goal of his own in the 12th minute, sparking a four-goal run in a five-minute span to extend the lead to 5-0 and the Bobcats took a 7-0 lead into halftime.
Bates scored two more in the second half to claim the 9-0 win.
Inside the Numbers: The Bobcats held a 37-4 advantage in shots and a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Castella made three saves in the first half for the Mariners and Maxwell Tomlin (Monroe, Maine) tallied two saves in the second half. Both Luca Antolini and Ryan Manning went untested on the night for the Bobcats, splitting time in net.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 1-0. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when they host UMaine-Presque Isle for their North Atlantic Conference opener on Ritchie Field at 3:30pm.
