Strong Start Propels Bengals Over Mariners

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to the University of Maine at Fort Kent, 4-0 on Saturday evening in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.

How it Happened: The Bengals struck early when Adil Iggoute beat Maxwell Tomlin (Monroe, Maine) in the fourth minute to make it 1-0 and Lovell Jonas extended the Bengals lead to 2-0 on a corner kick from Ronaldo Watson in the 17th minute. In the 26th minute, Elvis Gomez made it 3-0 on a feed from Ted Fleuriscat and just a minute later, Hannes Milan put the Bengals up 4-0, when he finished a pass from Lovell Jonas.

Inside the Numbers: The Bengals held a 18-5 in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Tomlin made seven first half saves for the Mariners in the defeat and Matthew Castella (San Antonio, Texas) made one save in the second half. Pedro Henrique Ivask made two first half saves, to earn the win for the Bengals. Orville Smikle made three saves in the final 45 minutes.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Bengals improve to 1-0. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Bates for a non-conference match at 3:30pm.
