In May 2020 the NCAA announced a partnership with the Division-III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Sport Science Institute to bring awareness to mental health. The #BreakTheStigma initiative serves as a platform for student-athletes, administrators, coaches, staff, and support networks across the country to start the discussion, speak out on, and break the stigma surrounding mental health.

What we are doing: Maine Maritime Athletics is committed to prioritizing and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. In August 2020 all of Mariners Athletics coaches and support staff became certified in Mental Health First Aid by the National Alliance on Mental Illness Maine. In our ongoing effort to best support our student-athletes on and off the playing surface, Mariners Athletics was proud to launch the #MarinersMentalHealthMonday campaign in September 2020 to continue the conversation, share resources, and break the stigma around mental health. Each Monday on both Facebook and Instagram, MarinerSports shares a post covering mental health topics, resources, or tips to support our student-athletes.
